I Do Not Weep at the World

$2,800.00

Inspired by a Zora Neale Hurston quote: “I do not weep at the world—I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife.” An experiment in anticipating joy and wonder, rather than focusing on the world’s pain.

A vintage drawer is repurposed as a wall-hanging shadowbox, holding a pair of crossed oyster knives and an open clamshell dish. A transparent image of a smiling woman looks out from the clamshell’s lid. On the clamshell’s base stands a tiny Black figurine with golden boots. The clamshell is mounted on a pedestal above a sandy floor.
